Review of TWO Budget tablets for Indian small business owners
The Indian tablet market is booming with numerous competitions all over the place. While high end tablets offer a bouquet of multimedia features and are still reserved for the affluent class of entrepreneurs, it is the budget tablet that is setting the market on fire.
Armed with a host of connectivity features, and being efficient at what tablets are truly meant for, communicating, these two low end but loaded gadgets are really turning up the heat. Ideal for small businesses, these low cost tables are affordable and efficient, so that they do not become much of an investment.
Micromax Funbook (approx. 6,500 INR) Micromax had already carved a separate market segment for itself with its cost effective offerings in the telecom sector. The manufacturer set the tablet market on fire with the Funbook, as never before had anyone offered such specs with such affordability.
Running on Android 4.0.3 ICS, the Tablet is packed with a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512 MB ram and Dual Mail graphics processor (400 2D/3D), delivering stunning performance for everyday tasks.
The 0.3 MP front camera will ensure that video calling is a breeze. In the connectivity department, one can choose between 2G/3G, Wi-Fi along with USB port and a 3.5mm audio jack.
While Micromax has had all the basics covered, there are things like the front buttons sticking out, no micro USB, non-standard charger, and the less than satisfactory battery life that might bother the picky customers. Then again, when it is this ‘sasta’, one can hardly complain.
iberry Auxus AX02 (approx. 9,990 INR) In the sub 10,000 segment of tablets, there are very few who can stand and deliver from the benchmark that the Auxus AX02 has set. While laying down the competition with an impeccable build quality rivaling tablets far above its price range, the tablet ups the favors in its sides with features like 1080 pixels full HD playback support, 1GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and Android 4.0.3 ICS.
The touch screen is capacitive in nature, so no need of a stylus, and the gaming experience is surprisingly good with the tablet handling games like Angry Birds and Poolmaster, surprisingly well.
On the downside, there’s no Bluetooth; but since there is no sim slot, there is very little possibility of the tablet being used for calling. Video calling is an option with front 0.3 MP and back 2 MP cameras rendering video and still picture capture support.
One can easily use Skype over Wi-Fi. Since this was the first budget tab to get ICS, a few crashes are not unheard of, although it is supposed to get better with updates. With the low screen brightness, sunlight visibility may be an issue for some, but it shouldn’t be a deal breaker, considering the other goodies it can deliver, especially at this price range.
India has always been a price sensitive market, and both these tablets deliver more than what their price suggests. Would you consider one for your small business?
